AVALI - Business Opportunities from Space Technology
Space technology can benefit everyday life in many ways. Finnish companies and research institutes have developed new applications for weather forecasting, monitoring forests and oil spills. T Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation, financed space technology projects in AVALI Technology Programme, which run from 2002 to 2005.
With a volume of 15 million euros the programme aimed to
- promote the use of space technology to increase the competitiveness of companies and their products in terrestrial applications
- create products for commercial satellite markets
- create products for commercial applications with the help of space based services.
Avali's thematic areas were hardware and software for both satellites and the ground segment, applications based space borne data, and applications for on-ground applications and products.
Avali created a foundation for business that would benefit space technology and infrastructure by funding more than 60 research and development projects. As a result, participating companies, universities and research institutes developed new remote sensing and satellite technology applications, services and processes.
